Game performance Benchmarks

3DMark2000 Ver 1.1 Source: MadOnion

3DMark2000 is still a popular benchmarks for evaluating 3D performance even though it is getting a bit dated. 3DMark2000 continues to provide benchmark results that gage DirectX7 performance and hardware transformation and lighting that older games still use. Version 1.1 ensures more reliable functionality with hardware and operating systems that were released after the launch of 3DMark2000 in December 1999. Higher numbers denote better performance.

3DMark 2000 v1.1 Benchmark Results
Processor 3DMarks Ranking
1. Athlon XP2000+ 11114
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz 9221

I think the word you are looking for is "obliterate." The P4 doesn't stand up very well whatsoever to the XP2000+ in this now aging DX7 benchmark. Still, its nice to see how older games are likely to perform on the Athlon XP 2000+.

3DMark2001 Source: MadOnion

3DMark2001 is the latest installment in the 3DMark series by MadOnion. By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, it continues to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001 has been created in cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

3DMark 2001 Benchmark Results
Processor 3DMarks Ranking
1. Athlon XP2000+ 7816
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz 7514

As 3DMark2001 is a DirectX8 benchmark, it is much more intensive than the previous version. The Athlon processors have traditionally enjoyed a lead in 3DMark scores and the Athlon XP2000+ is no slacker. After running 3DMark 2001 from a fresh install of Windows XP (and with no tweaking at all) the XP2000+ test system was able to produce a score of 7816 3DMarks (21.83 Detonators). The P4 came in behind by about 300 points.

DroneZ Source: Zetha Gamez

The game DroneZ was developed to leverage features unique to the GeForce3 nfiniteFX engine and is primarily an OpenGL benchmark. In this rolling demo 423 unique vertex shaders can be are used to create inspiring graphics from a host of game play scenes and provide a realtime test of the DroneZ engine and graphics. All of the test cards were run at GeForce2 normal mode. Sure everything looked bland, but it works!

Higher numbers denote faster frames per second (FPS), and hence, better performance.

DroneZ (1024x768) Benchmark Results
Processor (FPS) Ranking
1. Athlon XP2000+ 101.5
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz 105.1

DroneZ is one of the newer games out on the market, and one that has been built to take advantage of the nFiniteFX engine. It works as a pretty good benchmark at how future games will run on current systems. With the Asus Geforce3 Ti500 constant across both test platforms, the only differences in capability can be attributed to the processor and/or motherboard. Interestingly, it is the Pentium 4 that catches the slight lead here, coming ahead by just over 4 fps on average. The benchmark was running in GF3 Bump mapping mode.
