Up Close and Personal with the SPL4225

The Samsung Tantus SPL4225 42" plasma display measures 1039mm x 635mm x 89mm in size. The table top stand and speakers may not necessarily be included, and are in most cases optional extras. The look of the SPL4225 is very reminiscent of the Samsung 240T LCD monitor - clean lines, and a simple undistracting bezel. Notice that the plasma screen has a dark gray appearance to it - a few manufacturers have been trying out different technologies to make the screens more black, to make darker parts of movies look a little better.

The main controls are located in the lower right hand corner and the power button is off on the left hand side.

The rear of the PDP has a few things worth taking note of. First of all is the vents - this display must be mounted in the vertical so that the electronics receive proper cooling. Since there is no form of active cooling (ie. fans) this makes the display entirely silent - and rules out any horizontal orientations.

Framing the outside edges are the four integrated handles which help considerably when lugging this 70lb beast around. This is not something you want to drop, so make sure you have help if you have to move the display. At each of the four large screws on the rear are where the mounting points for the wall-mount bracket go. We dry fitted this 20lb frame on the little plastic stubs and the system seemed to work just fine.

Shown here with the wall mount frame installed. The table stand would not be there if this display was going up on the wall.
