Corsair TwinX2048-6400 PRO PC2-6400 DDR-2 Memory Review
Corsair TwinX2048-6400 PRO PC2-6400 DDR-2 Memory Review - PCSTATS
Battlefield 2 is especially well known for requiring at least 1GB of installed RAM memory to run smoothly... so why not aim high and upgrade to 2GB of installed RAM?

Max Memory Overclocking Results!

It's great to see how individual memory stacks up against the competition under stock configurations, but we're also going to show how it compares when overclocked. With performance in mind, we're going to compare the maximum overclocked results of the various DDR2 DIMMs we've tested in the past which are listed below. Remember, just because memory is clocked fast doesn't mean it's the best thing for a computer. Timings are also important, and getting the right ratio of both is the real key to performance-based overclocking!

Who says 1GB memory modules cannot overclock well? ;-) The Corsair Twin2X2048-6400 Pro PC2-6400 DDR-2 memory modules overclock extremely well and come in only second to Corsair's own PC2-8000 memory!

Good 1GB memory modules for those who need it!

As applications and games become more complex, they will inevitably require more resources. At the moment, 1GB of total system memory is good enough for most applications. Although, judging by what we are starting to see happen with some games this year, I think we're on the cusp of transitioning to a minimum 2GB installed system memory. This is certainly true at the moment only for Battlefield 2. That game sees a decent performance jump when more than 1GB of total system memory is installed.

For anyone considering a memory capacity upgrade, there are plenty of vendors to choose from... What we saw from Corsair new Twin2X2048-6400 Pro PC2-6400 DDR-2 DIMMs in this review is quite promising. The modules are fast, include some LED lights to catch interest, and the overclock to reasonably high speeds (935MHz). With a hefty retail price of $475 CDN ($405 US) for two dual channel 1GB DDR-2 modules, they are pretty much the best DDR2 on the market at the moment.

At stock speeds the (2x 1GB) kit is rated to run at 800 MHz speeds while maintaining 5-5-5-12 timings, which means this memory can keep both bandwidth hungry cores in a Pentium D processor fully fed! Pretty incredible when you consider how slowly DDR-2 memory started off...

At stock speeds this 2GB kit of Corsair Twin2X2048-6400 Pro PC2-6400 DDR-2 performed on par with its slimmer 1GB competition. In the Battlefield 2 benchmarks we get a nice performance boost thanks to the larger capacity too. When it came to overclocking, the Twin2X2048-6400 Pro modules managed a very nice 925 MHz! Ultimately what you should take away from this review is that 1GB of system memory is good enough for most systems. If you find your system lags or you want to future proof it with higher capacity memory now, these modules from Corsair can deliver the goods!
