Benchmarks: 3DMark03, 3DMark05

3DMark03 Source: FutureMark

Designed for DirectX9.0, provides you with all the information you need to make informed hardware assessments. Havok Total real-time physics library from Havok - these routines are used to accurately model the movements of objects due to forces, etc. FMOD sound library from Firelight Technologies - these are used for the various sound effects and routines used in the tests. Graphics adapter analysis software from Powerstrip of Entech Taiwan - this is used to correctly determine the speeds of the graphics processing and video memory chips, plus supply additional hardware information. Higher 3DMark03 scores denote better performance.

3DMark03 results are rather surprising and I would have expected the Gigabyte GV-RX18L256V-B to do better than this. Between the X1800 XL and the ATi Radeon X850 XT PE the scores are very close. It's about 1000 points less than what a GeForce 7800GT produces.

3DMark05 Source: FutureMark

3DMark05 is the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark graphics benchmarking series. It is the first benchmark to require DirectX9.0 compliant hardware with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher!

The Gigabyte GV-RX18L256V-B scores about 10% higher than the previous high end Radeon X850 XT PE, and about 400 points more than its direct competitor, the GeForce 7800GT. It lags behind the GeForce 7800GTX slightly, but not by much.
