Benchmarks: Nero CD Speed, Data and Audio

Nero CD Speed: Data Source: Ahead Software

CD Speed is a CD/DVD-ROM benchmark which can test the most important features of an optical drive. In this particular benchmark, we use a pressed CD-ROM with about 640MB of data as the test disk. Using a CDR or CDRW as the test disk may impact the results slightly, so a pressed disk is the standard testing tool.

In the first vertical column the results from the AOpen DSW1812P Dual Layer DVD drive are listed. The DSW1812P does pretty well for itself in Nero CD Speed's data test. The drive is able to maintain an average speed of 34x, which is nice and quick, and access times are relatively low across the board.

CD Speed is a CD-ROM benchmark which can test the most important features of a CD-ROM drive. In this particular benchmark we use a pressed Audio CD with about 65 minutes of audio on it as the test disk. CDROMs in general have a harder time processing audio data, and hence the results can be drastically slower than equivalent 'pure' data tests.

The AOpen DSW1812P handles audio CDs with an average speed of 33x. It's able to maintain a high transfer speed and access times continue to be kept relatively low.
