Video Capture & Editing
     Tue, Mar 08 2016 | 9:02A | Software | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
"I covered quite a bit and there is even more I could cover. I also have a batch file for making GIFs, renaming, scaling, and converting the screenshots I take, cropping videos, burning arbitrary text onto a video, burning the timecode, concatenating videos, changing the volume, and the terrifying SplitScreen.bat file. (I pass it two videos, tell it if I want the split to be horizontal or vertical and if I want the 'screens' to mirror each other or be half-and-half, and by magic it actually works.) I think this is enough for you to get started with your own capturing and editing experiments, so have fun!”

Posted by: STAFF
Flash, it's been a good run. We've had a lot of fun together, but it's time to get some distance... permanently. That doesn't erase my fond memories of playing together back in the day, but we both have to wake up and face the truth. You're outdated and insecure and untrustworthy. It's not me, it's you.

Take A Tour Of Microsoft’s Flagship 5th Ave Store
     Fri, Oct 30 2015 | 4:00P | Software | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
just opened a brand new, flagship store at 677 5th Avenue, in New York City. And since we’re just a short drive away, and were already spending some time in Manhattan with the folks from Motorola and Verizon, we thought we’d pop in and take a look around. The store is comprised of multiple stories—an elevator has buttons for floors 1 – 4, but only the first three floors are open to the public. The store was absolutely jammed when we arrived and customers appeared to be enamored with the latest Surface devices, especially the Surface Book...

How To Integrate Cloud Storage Services With Microsoft Office 2013 Rev. 2.0.
     Fri, Apr 10 2015 | 4:00P | Software | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
To avoid another antitrust case (remember Internet Explorer?), Microsoft Office 2013 comes with the ability to integrate with third-party cloud storage providers. However, they are not making it easy. The integration option isn't even mentioned in the Help service. It's certainly not found in the Microsoft Support website. In fact, it lies buried in a Word document download in the Microsoft Download Center. No shit. That's like keeping candy in the garage and expecting your kids to figure out where to find them. Okay, maybe that's the idea...

How To Give Adobe Photoshop A Performance Boost With Your GPU
     Wed, Apr 08 2015 | 4:03P | Software | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The Mercury Graphics Engine (MGE) in Adobe Photoshop CS6, Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014 will automatically use your computer's graphics card to accelerate filters, as well as other features like perspective warp, upscaling, focus mask, etc. All you need is a GPU that supports OpenGL or OpenCL with at least 512 MB of graphics memory, requirements which practically every graphics solution in the market meets. If you are using a laptop with switchable graphics though, Photoshop will not automatically use your GPU to accelerate its functions. Instead, it will always use the integrated graphics solution, which is not only slower but saps some of the system memory for use as graphics memory. So even if we ignore the better performance of discrete GPUs, it's worth using them to free up system memory for Photoshop to use. Let us show you how you can get Adobe Photoshop to use your discrete GPU, instead of the processor graphics or integrated graphics, for a boost in graphics and memory performance!

How to install the PLEX Unofficial App Store
     Sun, Mar 08 2015 | 4:40P | Software | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Having been a long time fan of the home theater PC, I have many times experimented with different platforms. These range from XBMC (now KODI), MediaPortal, Windows Media Center, PLEX, and a few others. What always led me back to XMBC, now KODI, was the incredible list of available addons. These addons added a ton of functionality that I couldn't find anywhere else. Recently, I decided to give PLEX another go as some of my family moves towards portable devices and in the interest of preventing another mutiny, I figured I would proactively implement an additional, easy to use, portable streaming solution.

littleBits Smart Home Kit Review
     Sat, Feb 07 2015 | 9:00A | Software | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Retrofitting an existing home with so-called "Internet of Things" gadgets isn’t cheap, but with the right tools you can hack cloud functionality into your dumb appliances. littleBits is an ever-growing library of small electronic modules that easily connect together. Created by Ayah Bdeir, it started as a tool to help designers incorporate electronics into the prototyping process. Today, it’s much more than that. Think of them as Legos for the iPad generation.
