Building an AMD A8-3870K Llano APU System For Under $300 @ Legit Reviews
     Sun, Sep 16 2012 | 9:23A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Are you looking to build a budget PC, but have a limited budget to work with? We have had a number of readers and businesses that we consult with looking for new systems that will save power and be faster than the systems they currently have. When we started to look into low cost Do-It-Yourself (DIY) systems we found that you could easily build an AMD Llano system for less than $300. And when we say under $300 we mean with shipping included! You would think that for under $300 we would have to cut corners and use knock off brands, but that is not the case here. We are using the top of the line AMD A8-3870K APU and an OCZ Vertex Plus R2 60GB Solid-State Drive (SSD) into this system. The one corner that we did cut is..."

Fourth generation Intel Core preview: all about Haswell
     Thu, Sep 13 2012 | 12:01P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Haswell is a new architecture based on an existing manufacturing process. That means it will have the 22nm Tri-Gate ‘3D’ transistors introduced with Ivy Bridge. The main enhancements of the CPU architecture come in the shape of new instructions (AVX 2) and support for transactional memory. The latter should make multi-threaded software run faster. The integrated GPU in the consumer models should also be a lot faster, and it will support DirectX 11.1. Intel is taking the integration of the chipset in the processor a step further, even releasing a complete system-on-a-chip (SoC) version of the processor.

IDF Day 1: Intel's Rise of Natural, Intuitive Computing
     Thu, Sep 13 2012 | 9:00A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink

Intel's Dadi Perlmutter took to the stage in the opening keynote of Intel Developer's Forum 2012 to greet an enthusiastic crowd and evangelize the company's vision of what they call the rise of "natural, intuitive computing." On stage with Dadi were a number of Intel-powered devices including a myriad of Windows 8 tablets and new Ultrabooks from various manufacturers. To be honest, Intel didn't disclose a lot of juicy detail on next generation hardware for the first 20 minutes or so of Dadi's presentation but they focused on a few very innovative new usage models, user interfaces, capabilities and features that are now possible as a result of Intel's relentless, continuous advancements in technology and computing architectures

Posted by: STAFF
Okay, time to take a break with AMD`s processors for now and let`s go back to Intel with the Core i7 920. Yes the i7 920, the one that a lot of us bought or wanted to buy, the one that has almost revolutionized the market, in bief: the one! Back to the article we are going to test his gaming performance coupled with an AMD HD 7970 under recent 3D games with maximum graphics settings possible at a resolution of 1920x1080. And there is a bonus, lots of people asked us to test it at both stock and 4 GHz speed, so we did!"

Intel Core i5 3470
     Tue, Sep 11 2012 | 9:25A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
For the past month I have been testing out the Intel Core i5 3470 under Linux. Like Intel`s other processors of recent years (well, ignoring the initial Sandy Bridge struggles), and just like the more expensive Ivy Bridge CPUs of this year, this mid-range quad-core processor is working very smoothly out of the box on modern Linux distributions."

     Wed, Sep 05 2012 | 11:44A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
This week, as a lot of readers wanted us to do, we tested the gaming performance of the Phenom II x4 and Phenom II x6 coupled with an AMD Radeon HD 7970. Which brings our comparison tables to a new level having 2 Phenoms, 2 Bulldozers, 2 Core 2 and an Ivy Bridge CPU in there. We hope this starts to give you an overview of processors` gaming performance under recent 3D games with a high end graphics card and maximum graphics settings possible at a resolution of 1920x1080. Unfortunately no overclocking this time nor most popular Phenoms - we did with what we had - aka a Phenom II x4 970 and a Phenom II x6 1090T BE. Anyway let`s see what the results are!"
