AMD A10-7850K vs. Intel/AMD CPU/APU Comparison
     Tue, Feb 04 2014 | 4:17P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Two days ago AMD launched their Kaveri APUs to mixed reactions. On launch-day we provided a Linux overview of the AMD A10-7850K APU and followed that with an Ubuntu Linux vs. Windows 8.1 performance comparison for this top-end Kaveri APU. Yesterday was then the AMD Kaveri APU compared to discrete AMD/NVIDIA GPUs and now today we`ve finally had the time to finish the tests most people have been looking forward to: the A10-7850K comparison against various other AMD and Intel CPU/APUs. These Linux tests cover a range of both processor and graphics testing from Ubuntu 14.04 across a wide selection of Intel and AMD hardware."

Intel Releases A Boatload Of Haswell Documentation

Posted by: STAFF
As an extra holiday present for Linux and open-source fans, Intel has quietly released a large batch of new programming documentation that covers their latest-generation Haswell graphics cores. The new programmer`s reference manuals cover the 2013 Haswell HD Graphics, Iris Graphics, and Iris Pro Graphics. This massive batch of documentation is spread across twelve volumes and does document their hardware registers."

News: A subjective look at the A8-7600s gaming performance
     Sat, Feb 01 2014 | 12:28P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
As long as you`re willing to dial back the in-game details, AMD`s Kaveri-based A8-7600 APU is fast enough to play the latest DirectX 11 titles. But do older and more casual games require fewer compromises? We`ve taken a subjective look at the chip`s performance in a wide variety of less demanding titles to get a sense of how it fares."

AMD Richland A10-6790K Review @ Vortez
     Sat, Feb 01 2014 | 11:10A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
So to be a little more objective, we place the A10-6790K APU against the Intel Haswell i5-4430 CPU that comes with the HD 4600 iGPU. Costing up to 46 more than the APU we can expect a lot of CPU horses, but how well does it do when considering the complete system?"

Intel Ivy Bridge Linux Performance Stepped Up In 2013
     Sat, Feb 01 2014 | 8:31A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
In continuation from last month`s Intel Haswell Linux Performance Improved A Lot In 2013, here are benchmarks of Intel Ivy Bridge HD Graphics 4000 when comparing the performance over the past year."

Intel Core i7-4960X Ivy Bridge-E Review @ Vortez
     Fri, Jan 31 2014 | 8:31A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Perhaps the biggest change though and the main selling point of the Ivy-Bridge E 4960X is the reduction in fabrication process from 32nm to 22nm which should equate to the new CPU being much more power efficient. For the overclockers this means less heat which hopefully will equate to higher overclocking. Our bomb proof Intel i7-3960X was capable of hitting 4.8GHz with regularity so we hope to reach this level with the i7-4960X as a minimum. Less voltage requirements and less heat production would obviously be welcome too."

AMD A8-7600 Kaveri APU and R7 250 Dual Graphics Testing - Pacing is Fixed!
     Thu, Jan 30 2014 | 11:10A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The ability to frame pace multi-GPU graphics has finally arrived to Dual Graphics with the Catalyst 13.35 beta and the results are pretty good. Of the five games we tested, four of them saw significant improvements in playability and experience with the new driver that did not exist before. The only game that didn`t see improvement was Skyrim, a game that is still using a DX9 rendering engine. AMD has clearly told us that only DX10/11 games are enabled for Frame Pacing right now, and in all honestly I don`t think we`ll see DX9 implemented at all. The game development world has moved on, and unfortunately I don`t think AMD sees the value of spending time on that right now."

AMD Kaveris Open Radeon Performance Now Multiple Times Faster
     Thu, Jan 30 2014 | 10:07A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Earlier this month I shared some basic OpenGL benchmarks between AMD`s Kaveri APU on the Catalyst driver and the open-source RadeonSI Gallium3D driver. Now that more time has passed I`m back with another round of Linux graphics driver testing on the AMD A10-7850K, this time looking at the impact when forcing Dynamic Power Management and toggling color tiling for maximum performance."

DDR3-2400MHz On AMDs A10 Kaveri With Kingstons HyperX Beast
     Thu, Jan 30 2014 | 6:26A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Earlier in the week I published benchmarks showing AMD Kaveri`s DDR3-800MHz through DDR3-2133MHz system memory performance. Those results showed this latest-generation AMD APU craving -- and being able to take advantage of -- high memory frequencies. Many were curious how DDR3-2400MHz would fair with Kaveri so here`s some benchmarks as we test out Kingston`s HyperX Beast 8GB DDR3-2400MHz memory kit."
