X 1080 Ti Overclocking
     Tue, Aug 22 2017 | 9:03A | Overclocking | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
This is important, because even when you are trying to apply a higher overclock, it may downclock for any number of reasons, from thermal limits, lack of voltage, or power draw. As stated above, NVIDIA has locked the GTX 1080 Ti voltage to 1.093v. It does not matter what brand you have, you cannot exceed this without hard modifications to the card. That means your maximum overclock cannot surpass 2.2GHz because of how Boost 3.0 works once again with thermal, power, and voltage limitations. Most cards will not exceed 2012MHz for a 1080 Ti, as that's the average number I've come across browsing different forums. Remember, this is a very big GPU die with 12 billion transistors in a small area. It is hard to expect the same overclock as a 1070 or even 1080.”

Alphacool Eisplateau Anti-Static Mat @ LanOC Reviews
     Tue, Aug 01 2017 | 3:28P | Overclocking | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
You would think with a few desk, a large photo area, and a full sized workbench I would have room to work on things around the office. The truth is though that the workbench fills up with projects quickly and everything else overflows into the photo area because of the space it provides. That isn’t a problem in itself, but the damage I have done to our past photo backdrops when everything was white was an issue. With the new wooden setup the idea was that dings, scratches, and scuffs wouldn’t be as big of a concern and for the most part they haven’t been. But I want to take good care of the space when getting into big projects. I’ve been looking for a mat to work on for a while and it just so happens that Alphacool has one that was perfect both for protection but also with nice information on the surface to help with projects. Today let's take a quick look and see if it ended up doing what I needed it to do.

Overclockers UK Titan Katana System (Ryzen 1700, GTX 1070)
     Tue, May 09 2017 | 4:00P | Overclocking | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
When Overclockers UK delivered their Titan Katana we practically clapped our hands with glee at the prospect of seeing another AMD Ryzen gaming PC. To our way of thinking, anything that stimulates competition and drives down prices is welcome and we love seeing AMD Ryzen take the fight to Intel Core i7. It made us even happier to see that Titan Katana combines the Ryzen 7 1700 CPU and GTX 1070 graphics card yet came with a price tag close to £1,300. That is the sort of price that puts the OCUK Titan Katana within reach of the mainstream gamer who doesn’t want to take out a mortgage to buy a new PC.

Over the past several days we’ve been able to spend more time with the Ryzen 7 1800X, 1700X and 1700 and we’ve found ourselves really starting to like the Ryzen 7 1700 processor the best from an enthusiast perspective. For starts the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 is the lowest price processor of the group at $329.99 shipped and it just happens to be the only model that comes with an AMD Wraith CPU cooler.

GTX 1070 Overclocking

”Now, start the Unigine Heaven benchmark in windowed mode so you can change the frequency while it is running. I generally use the Heaven benchmark as it's easy to run in windowed mode and artifacts are noticeable. Start with 100MHz OC and apply, then watch for any artifacts in the textures. These may be seen as flashing green, pink, or black textures. If none are present, push it up another 100MHz. Continue this until 400MHz. At that point, it will be best to go in 25-50MHz increments depending on the memory you have. Once you start to see artifacts or just crash, restart it and back it off 50-100MHz from the previous number and repeat the process of inching up until the same thing happens again. You will eventually hit a limit. I was able to achieve an 1010MHz (+505) overclock. Any higher and the Heaven benchmark would have wild artifacts and than crashed the computer a short while later. Once you have your magic number, write it down and set it back to defaults.”

AMD Athlon X4 880K Processor Review & Overclocking to 4.5 GHz
     Thu, Dec 01 2016 | 9:40A | Overclocking | PermaLink

When purchasing a low cost processor, you need to know what your main use of it will be. Depending on your needs, a low cost processor might not be the best choice; especially if you are wanting to do heavy duty tasks such as video encoding. Of course, if you're on a budget, a lower cost processor might be exactly what you are after, as long as you are aware of the limitations, you can make an informed choice. For around $96 with free shipping, you can begin to build a budget minded quad-core system with the AMD Athlon X4 880K processor. Read on to see how it performs and overclocks!
