LG Optimus L9 review: fair and balanced
     Tue, Jan 08 2013 | 9:01A | Optical Drives | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The LG Optimus L9 is a superbly balanced smartphone. Unlike the lower-positioned L7, the various components complement each other very nicely. You shouldn't expect any miracles of course, but the hardware definitely meets the requirements for what the phone needs. Extra features such as NFC and the dual-band wireless chip add some nice extra options.

Plextor PlexEasy PX-650US Versatile DVD/CD Burner
     Mon, Dec 10 2012 | 4:00P | Optical Drives | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Shooting short video clips and taking pictures is something many people do on a daily basis (mainly with their smartphones) so with Christmas just around the corner it's a safe bet that the largest percentage of the global population will spend quite a bit of time doing the same but in a much larger scale. So since we will probably be doing the exact same thing we did our best to find a device that would make our lives easier when sharing our Christmas media collection with both family and friends. Well to our surprise in the end it didn't take that long to find such a device and to be more accurate it was actually delivered to us out of the blue (luck was on our side). So just as the title clearly states we spend the better part of last week testing the latest PlexEasy PX-650US Versatile DVD/CD Burner by Plextor.

LG Optimus 4X HD Review
     Wed, Sep 12 2012 | 4:05P | Optical Drives | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
LG first unveiled the Optimus 4X HD back at Mobile World Congress in February. It's been a long time coming, but the Optimus 4X HD is now available in much of the world - even if it's only available outside of a plan (unlocked) here in the U.S. The Optimus 4X HD is the first quad-core LG smartphone, and it boasts a very high end spec sheet. The LG Optimus 4X HD is a big phone, like most of the other flagship smartphones to hit the market this year. Due largely to its very nice 4.7-inch, IPS touchscreen display, which offers 720p HD resolution, LG's Optimus 4X HD measures 133.0 x 68.2mm x 9.5mm, which makes it slightly shorter and narrower than HTC's One X, but also half a hair thicker. At 133g in weight, the phone doesn't feel like a total brick in your purse or pocket.

RAIDON Hybrid Runner iH2420-2S-S2 Review
     Sat, Aug 18 2012 | 9:04A | Optical Drives | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Although casual users, gamers and enthusiasts have always been our primary focus group Ive also done my best to secure and test several devices targeted towards professionals and enterprise users in general during the past years. We all know that in many occasions professionals and enthusiasts are after the same high end performance parts but professionals and enterprise users alike also seek extra protection for their sensitive data and that`s mainly as to why they belong in an entirely different focus group. Now two days ago we tested a dual bay 3.5 USB 3.0 RAID 0/1 enclosure by Akitio but what about people who want fast performance and reliability in a far smaller package? Well RAIDON may just have the answer with their latest Hybrid Runner iH2420-2S-S2 2.5 SSD/HDD combo device."

The BW-12B1LT from Asus has proven to be a solid contender in the relatively new market of Blu-Ray writers. It operates quietly, has a sleek look, and produced reliable burns with every type of recordable media I tossed at it."

Asus DRW-24B3LT SATA DVD-RW Drive Review @ Tweaknews
     Wed, Jan 25 2012 | 11:21A | Optical Drives | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Asus has shown us another solid product with the DRW-24B3LT. This well-rounded drive can write to a recordable DVD at up to 24x and testing showed that it`s not only fast, it can also produce consistently reliable discs. The inclusion of a white faceplate is a nice touch, and the software bundle is useful for many types of CD/DVD projects."

Plextor falls short with its PX-LB950UE external 12x Blu-ray writer
     Tue, Aug 23 2011 | 9:47P | Optical Drives | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Plextor falls way short with its newest 12x External Blu-ray Writer...

"In recent weeks the talk of the town has been a sleek black external 12x Blu-ray WRITER from the folks at Plextor. The Plextor PX-LB950UE connects via USB 3.0 or eSATA cables and is capable of burning single layer Blu-ray Disk (BD) media at 12x, double layer BD media at 8x and DVD-R media at 16x speeds. In addition, it supports the playback of Blu-ray 3D movie titles. The bonus to going the Blu-ray writer route, is that BD-R media is even more useful than DVD media for archiving MASSIVE amounts of data - For ~$13 a disk, a single layer recordable BD-R disk will hold 25GB of data. "

"All is note roses with this drive; no matter what DVD software we used (Cyberlink Power DVD8/9), no matter what update we tried, now matter that Cyberlink BD Advisor v2.0.4017 gave the test system a pass, no matter that Plextor PlexUtilities scanned the disk and found it Defect free, PCSTATS could not get its official test Blu-ray movie ('10,000 BC') to play in the PX-LB950UE."

Liteon iHES212 12x Internal Blu Ray burner

"Blu Ray might just be a stop gap before true HD streaming, but for now it’s one of the easier ways to get hold of high definition movies and other media; especially since it’s becoming more affordable. While they used to cost hundreds of pounds, now you can get yourself an internal one like the one we’re reviewing today for around £60. This one is the Liteon iHES212 12x Internal, let’s give it a look."

ASUS BC-12B1ST Internal 12X BD-Combo Drive Review
     Tue, Jun 28 2011 | 12:01P | Optical Drives | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
"The ASUS BC-12B1ST drive can read a Blu-Ray disc and has the ability to burn data onto a DVD media. The ASUS BC-12B1ST BD-Combo drive can reach read speeds of 12X for BD-ROM discs and 16X for DVD-ROM discs. As for data burning speed, the ASUS BC-12B1ST BD-Combo drive can burn a DVD+/-R disc up to 16X and store data on CD-R discs up to 48X. Using ASUS’ E-Green technology, the BC-12B1ST BD-Combo drive conserves energy by closing unused drive applications while the Optical Tuning Strategy employed by the BC-12B1ST drive when burning results in excellent error-free burning. Using a SATA interface and being compatible with a Windows operating system, makes the ASUS BC-12B1ST a great addition to your PC-based home theater system."

Design wise, Samsung have done well by their 9-Series Ultrabook; the system is wrapped in dark cobalt blue aluminum chassis that adopts many of the design elements of an Apple Macbook Air, yet posses the large screen size of a MacBook Pro (albeit with better hardware) and a sticker prices that won't cause heart failure.
