Seasonic X-460 Fanless 460W 80Plus Gold Silent Powersupply Review
|
For those that know what to look for, power efficiency and silent operation are chief considerations when it's time for a power supply upgrade. Since power issues are also the number one cause of dead PC's it pays not to cheap out on this critical but typically underestimated computer component. While it's tempting to pick any old metal box with a suitable Wattage figure, in the long run most users quickly discover that power efficiency and quiet operation are equally important. Where power efficiency is concerned, certifications like '80 Pl us' are a good place to start.
In this review PCSTATS is testing out an entirely fanless, silent 460W power supply from Seasonic's modular "X" series. There aren't very many fanless power supplies on the market so this is a bit of a treat. The Seasonic X-460 Fanless (SS-460FL) is an Active Power Factor Correction (A-PFC F3) class unit which boasts the exceedingly hard to come by 80 Plus Gold rating. A fanless 400W model (SS-400FLM) is also produced.

Seasonic X-760 760W 80Plus Gold Power Supply Review
|
The Seasonic SS-760KM is an Active Power Factor Correction (A-PFC F3) power supply that boasts an80 Plus Gold rating. It features a +12V rail capable of delivering 63 Amps, four 6/8 PCI Express videocard power connectors and the convenience of modular cables. The Seasonic SS-760KM X-760 power supply retails for about $180CDN ($180 USD, £90 GBP) and is covered by a five-year warranty.
Under the matt-black steel case and honeycomb air vents are a few clever electrical choices. Seasonic use solid state aluminum polymer capacitors strategically throughout, for greater heat tolerance Japanese 105°C rated caps, to reduce current transmission resistance gold plated terminals. Furthermore, where the modular cables connect to the X-760, Seasonic employ a DC-to-DC converter board rather than a bundle of wires soldered to the modular cable jacks. Seasonic insist that by moving the +3.3V and +5V voltage regulator modules to the connector panel it has minimized voltage drops and impedance, improved airflow by doing away with unnecessary wires within the PSU and aided heat dissipation with a simple, unobstructed component layout.

XFX Pro Series Core Edition Power Supplies
|
"The XFX Pro Series Core Edition power supplies performed very well across the range. The DC voltage load regulation was excellent from 20% to 100% DC loading and in combination with very low AC ripple/noise levels means excellent DC quality on all rails on all three power supplies. The 3V3 and 5V0 rails dipped a little lower than I would have liked but they still remained well within the limits set down by the ATX12V V2.2 specification and won’t prove to be a problem when the biggest dip below ideal rail voltage was only 0.09V."

Enermax Hoplite Review
|
"Enermax are world renowned for their presence within the PSU and cooling
departments and are regarded as a household name, but would you be shocked
to hear that Enermax also produce computer cases? Admittedly they have only
a very small selection to choose from, but in the last 2 years Enermax have
branched off into the computer case genre which will certainly surprised
quite a few. These cases have been directed toward entry level users, so
fundamentally the hardware enthusiast will be ignorant of their existence.
But this year, things are about to change."

Antec HCG-750 750 Watt
|
