Benchmarks: 3DMark2001, 3DMark05

3DMark2001 Source: FutureMark

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark 2001 SE continues to provide a good overall system benchmark. 3DMark2001 SE was created in co-operation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

3DMark2001SE:
Motherboards: Points Ranking
Foxconn 955X7AA-8EKRS2 (955X 200/667) 22257
Foxconn 945P7AA-8EKRS2 (945P 200/667) 21723
MSI P4N Diamond (NF4 SLI 200/800 7800GTX Single) 22643
MSI P4N Diamond (NF4 SLI 200/800 7800GTX SLI) 24882
Epox 5NVA+ SLI (NF4 SLI 200/800 7800GTX Single) 22557
Epox 5NVA+ SLI (NF4 SLI 200/800 7800GTX SLI) 24388

3DMark2001 numbers are good and here we see a real benefit from running SLI. Performance jumps about 10%, with the Intel chipsets SLI is not even an option.

3DMark05 is the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark graphics benchmarking series. It is the first benchmark to require DirectX®9.0 compliant hardware with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher.

Foxconn 945P7AA-8EKRS2 (945P 200/667) 6201
MSI P4N Diamond (NF4 SLI 200/800 7800GTX Single) 6485

Epox 5NVA+ SLI (NF4 SLI 200/800 7800GTX Single) 6001
Epox 5NVA+ SLI (NF4 SLI 200/800 7800GTX SLI) 5868

It looks like nVIDIA still has a bit of work to do with its Intel nForce4 SLI chipset as running two GeForce 7800GTX's in SLI does not boost performance very much at all, at least in this benchmark.
