The 570V TFT is an affordable option as flat panel displays
go - sitting at about $800CDN. While power saving points brought about by the
25W power usage will not have a big impact
for most of us, it may something business users should
take note of.
With a visible display area of 9" by 12" this monitor gives the current crop
of 17" CRT monitors a run for their money (not on price mind you) in terms of
screen real estate. The 250:1 contrast rating translates into dark blacks and
bright whites, while the 200cd/m2 equates to a bright and vibrant display on par
with, or superior to most CRT displays (we faced it off against an ADI, and an
ACER). Based on specs alone this display offers some very attractive visual
cues. On the downside the base is rather plain and doesn't support any vertical
height adjustments, USB ports or any extra, special features. Other models of
base do (the instruction manual notes 5 models) which is a saving factor.
The OSD is easy to operate, and the automatic adjustment key on the front
bezel is even easier to use. Anyone comfortable with working on a 1024x768
resolution screen will make a smooth transformation into TFT displays of this
type. For those of you more comfortable with larger screen texts brought about
by 800x600 resolution settings, the "smaller words" make take some time getting
used to.
All in all the SyncMaster 570V is a very economically priced TFT display
based on an analog video connection (it will work with your existing legacy
video card unlike DVI-D video adapters). If you can afford a TFT display I
wouldn't hesitate considering this model.
