Winbench 99, Winstone, Sandra

Winbench 99 V1.2 Source: e-Testinglabs.com

WinBench 99 is a subsystem-level benchmark that measures the performance of a PC's graphics, disk, and video subsystems in a Windows environment. WinBench 99's tests can run on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows Me systems.

Higher numbers denote better performance.

Since Winbench99 is more of a "office" based benchmark, you can see the AthlonXP totally leave the P4 2 GHz in the dust.

With the internet content part of the benchmark, the AthlonXP 2000+ totally destroy's the P4 - in some cases, it's almost twice as fast! Same thing goes for the benchmark when CAD programs are tested. Of course historically, ever since the Athlon was released 3 years ago with it's extremely powerful FPU, AMD has always been in the lead in this department and Intel's attempts seem to always fall short. Among the office applications the scores aren't even close. AMD just completely smothers the Pentium4 in this benchmark, again and again.

Content Creation Winstone 2001 keeps multiple applications open at once and switches among those applications. Content Creation Winstone 2001's activities focus on what we call "hot spots," periods of activity that make your PC really work--the times where you're likely to see an hourglass or a progress bar.

Business Winstone is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance when running today's Windows-based 32-bit applications on Windows 98 SE, Windows NT 4.0 (SP6 or later), Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows XP which runs real applications through a series of scripted activities and uses the time a PC takes to complete those activities to produce its performance scores.

Higher number denote better performance.

Processor Scores Ranking

Content Creation

1. Athlon XP2000+ 83.2
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz 63.1

Business Winstone

1. Athlon XP2000+ 49.6
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz 44.2

Both, Content Creation and Business Winstone back up what Winbench 99 says. The Content Creation tests are purely based on the CPU is under full load calculating data. The Business Winstone test demonstrates how a system handles multi-tasking.

Again, in both benchmarks, the AthlonXP totally leaves the P4 behind by a fair degree.

SiSoft Sandra 2002 is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and may not represent real world performance.

Processor / Test Score

CPU Bench

1. Athlon XP2000+ (Dhrystone) 4618 MIPS
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz (Dhrystone) 3734 MIPS
1. Athlon XP2000+ (Whetstone) 2318 MFLOPS
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz (Whetstone) 1057/2492 (SSE2) MFLOPS

Multimedia Bench

1. Athlon XP2000+ (Integer) 9088 it/s
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz (Integer) 8034 it/s
1. Athlon XP2000+ (Floating Point) 10695 it/s
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz (Floating Point) 9752 it/s

Memory Bench

1. Athlon XP2000+ (Integer) 2040 MB/s
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz (Integer) 1478 MB/s
1. Athlon XP2000+ (Float) 1412 MB/s
2. Pentium4 2.0GHz (Float) 1455 MB/s

SiSoft Sandra has been around for some time, and in this series of tests for CPU, Memory and Multimedia the Athlon XP 2000+ again illustrates that the Pentium 4, clocked at 2.0GHz, is for the most part easily out-performable. It's almost painful to watch a the Pentium 4 being out-done by one that is almost half the price.
