Unreal Tournament 2003

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound and game play are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs the use of Vertex as well as Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a DirectX 8 videocard to get the most out of the game.

Framerates are very good in UT2003, even at stock speeds. Overclocking boosts performance by a bit as always.

The Samsung PC4200 DDR2 and Crucial PC4200 DIMM's are neck and neck which is very good, considering Crucial is one of best memory manufacturers out there! Overclocking the Samsung PC4200 memory sweeten things further.

These are some of the first commercially available DDR2 DIMM's on the market. Each 256MB stick of DDR2-533 (PC4200) memory is made by Samsung, and features memory timings of 4-4-4 at 1.8V.

During our tests, we experienced no problems running the memory a bit more aggressively. The timings were tightened to 3-3-3, and the modules remained 100% stabile, even at the default vDIMM voltage.

Ultimately, the performance of these Samsung PC4200 DDR2 modules is good... although competition is pretty scarce at the moment. The overclocking question remains un answered, though I would expect better figures if a way can be found around the lock in the i925x chipets. Still, a top speed of 287 MHz is too shabby.

With a retail price of $275 CDN ($203 US) these 256MB DDR2 memory modules are currently twice the price of regular DDR. I would expect prices to fall in the coming months as more consumers adopt DDR-2 based systems. For the moment though, if you need DDR2 memory for your new Socket 775 Pentium 4 based system, offers performance on par with Crucial's PC4200 DDR2 RAM.
